2011 Neo Soul Slam Team

Thank you for consideration.
My name is Herman Mason, and I am the owner of South Flavas Entertainment and the creator of Neo-Soul Lounge. I am very honored to have the 2011 Neo Soul Slam Team represent Austin, Texas at the 2011 National Poetry Slam competition in Cambridge, Massachusetts, August 8-14. They will be competing against 83 teams from all over the US, Paris and Canada. They have been practicing non-stop since the team was announced in May 2011. Practicing is probably not the correct word as the process more closely resembles boot camp. They have fun but are serious about winning and I believe this is their year.
It was because of the support of the Austin community Neo-Soul Slam Team went to the National Poetry Sam Championship for each of the last 5 years. Below is our competitive record:
2006 – 2nd in the Nation
2007 – semifinals, finished 20th
2008 – semifinals, finished 14th
2009 – semifinals, 5th in the Nation
2010 – Finals, 4th in the Nation
Neo Soul is the only team in the history of the National Poetry Slam to make the semifinals in every year.

Your donations will help with travel and lodging. Our best estimate is that team expenses will be $3,500 for the week-long competition. Each team member contributes $300 of their own money and is responsible for the cost of meals and NPS registration.
